Summary
Overall management of manufacturing operations and continual improvement activities in a precision machining, union environment. Implement changes to improve quality, productivity, and efficiencies of operations to improve profitability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Manage plant operations through subordinate managers and supervisors to achieve corporate goals relating to quality, productivity, safety and profitability.
  • Plan, organize, direct and run optimum day-to-day operations to exceed the customers’ expectations.
  • Increase production, assets capacity and flexibility while minimizing unnecessary costs and maintain current quality standards.
  • Responsible for production output, product quality and on-time shipping.
  • Allocate resources effectively and fully utilize assets to produce optimal results.
  • Implement strategies in alignment with strategic initiatives and provide a clear sense of direction and focus.
  • Monitor operations and trigger corrective actions.
  • Share a trusting relationship with workgroup and recruit, manage and develop plant staff.
  • Collect and analyze data to find places of waste or overtime.
  • Develop systems and processes that track and optimize productivity and standards, metrics and performance targets to ensure effective return on assets.
  • Address employees’ issues or grievances and administer collective bargaining agreements.
  • Instill and maintain a culture of teamwork, personal learning and professional development for all employees.
  • Get employees involved and implementing programs, ideas or guidelines which ensure fairness, improve employee morale and work life.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects to optimize operations and improve productivity to meet and exceed business objectives; work on strategic projects that have plant and companywide impact. Effectively leverage the leadership team to solicit ideas and understand problems and challenges in the plant.
  • Establish objectives and metrics for safety, quality, productivity, and customer experience.
  • Continuously evaluate and measure current performance against forecast and cost estimates.
  • Coordinate plant activities through planning with onsite and offsite resources to ensure the manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Provide clear communication with the workforce; ensure departmental work methods are compatible with company standards and customer requirements.
  • Develop priorities based on production schedules, equipment efficiency, engineering requirements and quality controls.
  • Provide support and direction to supervisors or staff members to meet schedules or resolve technical or operational problems.
  • Promote and facilitate shop floor work flow analysis and create/implement standard work to achieve improvement priorities.
  • Develop budgets and manage activities to accomplish financial objectives.
  • Explore and develop new processes and manufacturing methods to reduce overall costs.
  • Maintain frequent communication with managers and team members concerning projects, operational decisions, scheduling requirements, or contractual clarification.
  • Conduct briefings, trainings and technical meetings with manufacturing employees.
  • Ensure all operations conform to the company’s safety policies and procedures, as well as federal, state and local regulations.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement and employee engagement.
  • Influence and lead change throughout the business.
  • Coordinate efforts with Engineering and Sales to meet production goals and manage controllable expenses.
  • Maintain and enforce all company policies and procedures.

Education and/or Experience
BS in Engineering and ten years related experience in a precision machining manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
