As part of the drive to automate and produce robust and capable processes, EMP has focused on hi pressure washing and robotic de-burring. The application of hi-pressure de-burring technology has been an area of focus for EMP since 2004. Our initial foray into hi-pressure de-burring came as part of our involvement with the production of fuel systems components. These components have very stringent cleanliness and edge condition requirements. To meet these requirements EMP has invested heavily in CNC and robotics high pressure water de-burring technology. As a consequence of applying Sugino’s waterjet deburring machines to deburring applications, EMP developed a robotic deburring booth with Proceco that has features a 6 axis robot combined with a patented rotary union to deliver an extremely robust cleaning and de-burring solution for aluminum, cast iron, or ductile iron parts.

The need to produce consistent results has resulted in a focus on reducing operator content. Post machining processes like manual de-burring are a source of inconsistent quality as well a safety concern. These concerns have led us to develop very robust automated deburring solutions that center around axially compliant robotic de-burring brushes. These brushes are typically applied in a cell to reduce machine content, eliminate operator content and provide consistent results.
